The Assignment of Prayer

Over the years, I have been part of different prayer groups. I was either in a small mixed prayer group, a women’s prayer

Over the years, I have been part of different prayer groups. I was either in a small mixed prayer group, a women’s prayer group, attending or hosting a “House Church”, or just being called to pray for someone. Although I easily prayed fervently, I never truly considered the enormous responsibility that comes with the call to pray.

I have come to realize, many are indeed called to pray, but the reality is that few are chosen, or willing to sustain the process. This is a spot-on description of the difference between the call and the actual assignment or commitment to pray.

Although I lead a weekly AM prayer line, I never really experienced the power of sustained hours of prayer until recently. I was invited to participate in a 48-hour plus prayer vigil. The group was praying for a very “specific” outcome, that would have long and short-term global implications.

The challenge was that they were all seasoned, powerful long distant prayer warriors, I was not. However, God always calls us to greater heights than what we believe we are capable of achieving.

I was awed at their stamina in prayer as well as my own to keep up with the pace. My faith in God and the power of prayer was deepened. It got deeper and deeper as I prayed. I felt very honored that I was chosen to participate in such a sustained movement of prayer for such a significant me in our history.

I realized that all those years of my participating in consistent fervent prayers were yielding its fruit, and had prepared me for such a me as this.

Following the group’s lead, I also began to pray very “strategic”, intentional and pointed prayers. I moved in rhythm with the group breaking through strongholds. We prayed against every entry point and opposing position that would possibly hinder our prayers. We remained focused on Isaiah 55:11 (God’s word will not return void….). We invoke the strategy of Nehemiah, (4:14), staying focused as we rebuilt the wall.

It was during these moments that I received great revelation and understanding of what both the call to be an Intercessory prayer warrior is and the enormity of the responsibility and the reward that it carries. I experienced the assignment and calling of a “Prayer Warrior”.

I am grateful to serve God in prayer. My assignment and calling is assured..

“Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall…..” (2nd Peter 1:10).

God, give me the “wisdom” to lead your people that I may serve them well and please you. (2nd Chronicles 1:10)
