Diaspora members around the world with interest in photography are invited to participate in the iDiaspora Photo Contest.
The contest is co-organised by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and IBER-RUTAS – a Program that aims to contribute to the promotion of cultural diversity in Ibero-America for the protection of migrants’ rights from an intercultural perspective.
This first international diaspora photo contest is designed to highlight the socio-cultural contributions of diasporas and migrant communities around the world and recognize their talent.
The contest, which is under the principal theme “Diaspora” will accept submissions for a series of three photographs per participant portraying some of the following categories:
- Navigating identities: Is there a relationship between Diaspora’s homeland and new land? How do diasporas express their sense of belonging in multiple societies?
- Youth and their roots: What is it like to be born or grow up as a member of the diaspora? How can the youth connect with their homeland?
- Diasporas as influencers: How does the diaspora contribute positively to their societies through the use of technology?
- Diasporas helping their communities: What is it like to assist communities during a crisis?
The iDiaspora Photo Contest will in addition be classified under Amateur and Professional categories; with only one submission per person allowed. Read more about applying for the contest HERE.
Registration is free and open until 4 November 2022 at 15:00 hours, Geneva, Switzerland time; after which the photographic series will be evaluated by a panel of expert juries in order to determine the winning entries and special mentions.
Winners will be announced 15 days after the closure of the contest on the iDiaspora and IBER-RUTAS websites; with prizes for both categories as follows:
First Prize: USD 1,500.
Second Prize: USD 700.
