The easiest way for governments to create enabling grounds for members of its diaspora to integrate properly into their respective development agenda is by collective engagement. Effective diaspora engagement does not only promote development, but also provides good opportunities to collaborate in all spheres for both the diaspora countries of residence and homelands.
In light of these, the European Union Global Diaspora Facility (EUDiF) will be hosting a panel discussion on Tuesday 2nd February 2021 under the theme “the role of homeland governments in diaspora engagement” to talk about the impact of actions, policies and role of institutions of countries of origin and how they can create enabling environments for their diasporas.
Speakers at the webinar will be Ambassador Vazken Kavlakian (Head of the Migrants Directory at Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants in Lebanon), Ing. Luis Gutiérrez Reyes of the Instituto de los Mexicanos en el Exterior in Mexico, and Ms. Nadejda Zubco (Deputy Head at the Bureau for Diaspora Relations in Moldova).
According to the organisers EUDiF, “the event will feature speakers from the governments of Lebanon, Mexico, and Moldova, with Professor Jennifer Brinkerhoff of George Washington University acting as discussant. The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD)’s Head of Global Initiatives, Oleg Chirita will moderate the event.”
The European Union Global Diaspora Facility (EUDiF) was established as a pilot project running from June 2019 till the end of 2022. The project is being implemented by the ICMPD, and funded by DG INTPA (DG International Partnerships).
Based at the International Centre for Migration Policy Development’s office in Brussels-Belgium, the EUDiF team is open to collaborations from people and organisations who can connect with its aims in consolidating knowledge and action for development through diaspora engagement.
