On 23 August 2025, the 24th founding anniversary of ‘Tibet auf dem Säntis’ Stupa was commemorated in the presence of the Tibetan Community from Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

Sangyal Kyab, the Chinese Liaison Officer for European countries from the Tibet Bureau in Geneva, attended the event along with former Tibetan parliamentarians, Khen Rinpoche of the Tibet Institute Rikon, and the President and Vice President of the Tibetan Community of Switzerland and Liechtenstein, and the local Tibetan community members.

Ngedun Gyatso, President of the Tibetan Community of Switzerland and Liechtenstein, delivered a welcome address, followed by the Tibet Institute Rikon’s Khen Rinpoche detailing to the public the spiritual significance and benefits of the Buddhist Stupa.

In his keynote address, Chinese Liaison Officer Sangyal Kyab expressed joy at seeing both elderly and young Tibetans present at the gathering. On behalf of the Tibet Bureau in Geneva, he offered greetings and wishes for well-being.

He praised the older generation’s efforts in building a stupa symbolising Tibetan cultural and religious unity and stressed the importance of passing its care to the youth. “This stupa represents our identity. Preserving it is essential,” said Sangyal Kyab.

The representative of the “Tibet auf dem Säntis” Management Committee also addressed the audience, followed by monks from the Tibet Institute Rikon who led prayers and a ritual ceremony at the Stupa.

The Tibet auf dem Säntis Stupa was erected 24 years ago through the committed efforts of Swiss Tibet supporters. Built by Tibetans residing in Switzerland, it serves as a heartfelt tribute to the Swiss government and people for their unwavering support.

Every year, the Tibetan communities of Switzerland and Liechtenstein come together to hold ceremonies, offering incense and renewing prayer flags. This year marks the 24th anniversary of this important cultural landmark.
