The Eastern US,Mexico, India and other places in the world experienced terrible hurricanes and flooding this year.
This is why our favourite children’s author, Liz (MamaLiz) Franklin is back with an e-book for the season, “The Hurricane that Tried to Steal Christmas” to encourage kids that the Christmas hope is still alive even in the midst of devastation.
Reading the book starts off with a special dedication to a young superhero from North Carolina who was sadly a victim of the flood; in addition to all children who valiantly fought the flood, encouraging them to keep hope alive.
The story then introduces us to a young girl, Sarah, who lived in one of the towns affected by the floods. She lost her cat during the whole experience, and could not go out, see her friends, nor visit other family members because every public place was closed down.
Indeed, it looked like the floods had stolen everything from her, and she wondered whether it was going to steal her Christmas too?
Sarah’s mother assures her that her Christmas cannot be stolen, emphasizing the meaning of the celebration.
Soon, some of the things that remind us of Christmas such as snow and Christmas trees light up Sarah’s life and she realizes that the season’s cheer is upon us. She’s also admonished by her mother to share the joy by showing kindness to those who seem to have Christmas ‘taken away from them’, reminding her of her own past Christmas stories.
Eventually, technology makes it possible for her to ‘visit’ some of her favourite people, in addition to sharing the Christmas cheer with other families in the tent. By some miracle, she also gets back some of the special things she lost.
This inspiring book reminds all of us that no one can steal our Christmas, no matter how bad the situation may look, because Christmas lives in our hearts.
As usual, MamaLiz and her amazing team makes the book an interesting read by interspersing it with relevant colourful illustrations.
Proceeds from the book on Amazon will go to help children still suffering from homelessness as a result of the flood, with a special video presentation reading of the book. In addition, the free e-book will be available on Liz (Mamaliz) Franklin’s website.
