Members of the Welsh diaspora and people with affinity to Wales will have an opportunity to network, dialogue and enjoy good music at The UK Pavilion in Expo 2020 Dubai.
The event, to be hosted by the Welsh Government will showcase the nation’s creative industry; starting from 7pm till 10pm UAE time, on February 4, 2022.
It will also be an evening to commemorate Dydd Miwsig Cymru or Welsh Language Music Day. The Day is set aside to celebrate all forms and genres of Welsh language music; and promises to be entertaining for all guests who attend.
An important part of the event will be an informal Q&A panel session with members of the Welsh diaspora in the UAE.
The Welsh global diaspora is a vibrant and value-driven community. It is also estimated that an upward of 3 million people around the world have an affiliation to Wales.
GlobalWelsh: a non-profit organisation focused on connecting Welsh people globally published a research into diaspora attitude to Wales in 2021. Some of the key findings showed strength towards growth and trust in digital discussion by the Welsh diaspora, as compared to the rest of the Celtic nations.
This is why initiatives such as GlobalWelsh Connect must be commended as it seeks to create Wales’ largest global community and shape the future of the nation.
In December 2021, GlobalWelsh Middle East was launched to join a network of other hubs in economically vibrant cities around the world. The virtual hub will represent GlobalWelsh and facilitate activities on the ground in the region focusing on Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries which includes UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
