Table Tennis Champion, Yasiris Ortiz, Prepares for Major International Competitions While Expanding Spin & Learn Foundation in the Bronx

Professional table tennis athlete Yasiris Ortiz, who appears in the film Marty Supreme, continues to gain momentum both on the international stage and through her growing community impact in New York.

As a member of the Dominican Republic National Table Tennis Team, Ortiz is currently preparing for a series of major international competitions while expanding her nonprofit initiative, the Spin & Learn Foundation, dedicated to providing free table tennis programs to underserved youth in the Bronx.

Ortiz recently competed in an open tournament in Mexico from February 2–9, 2026, as part of her national team’s preparation for upcoming regional championships.

During the tournament, she captured gold in Women’s Doubles with teammate Esmerlyn Castro and silver in Mixed Doubles with Ramon Vila, demonstrating strong competitive form as the Dominican team builds toward its primary goal this year, the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo this summer.

Over the coming months, Ortiz will represent the Dominican Republic in several key international competitions, including the ITTF-Americas Central American & Caribbean Championships in Santo Domingo (April 9–15, 2026) and the ITTF World Team Championships Finals in London (April 28–May 10, 2026). These events will serve as critical preparation for the Central American and Caribbean Games (July 24–August 8, 2026), where Ortiz will compete in singles, doubles, and team events on home soil.

While pursuing elite athletic performance, Ortiz is also committed to community development through her new nonprofit organization,Spin & Learn Foundation, Inc. The organization is dedicated to providing free table tennis programs for economically disadvantaged individuals and families, with an initial focus on communities in the Bronx. The foundation will debut its first Community Table Tennis Development Program in spring 2026, in partnership with the Police Athletic League (PAL) South Bronx.

The 12-week program will serve youth ages 8 and up, offering professional table tennis instruction, leadership development, wellness programming, and mentorship opportunities. Participants will receive all equipment at no cost and will be trained to become assistant coaches, creating a sustainable model where graduates mentor future cohorts.

Ortiz’s growing visibility in sport and culture is further reflected by her recent appearance in the film Marty Supreme, bringing attention to the world of competitive table tennis and the athletes who dedicate their lives to the sport. Balancing international competition with nonprofit leadership, Ortiz continues to use table tennis as a platform for empowerment, mentorship, and community building. “Table tennis changed my life,” Ortiz said. “Through Spin & Learn, I want young people in my community to have access to the same opportunities for discipline, confidence, and growth that the sport gave me.” With international competitions ahead and the launch of new programs in the Bronx, 2026 marks a pivotal year for Ortiz as both an athlete and a community leader.
