On December 8, 2024, leading voices in the global African Diaspora art scene gathered to explore the transformative power of art, culture, and spirituality at the annual CADA Art Basel Panel Discussion.
The prestigious event which is held every December centers around discussions that delve into key issues shaping contemporary African Diaspora art and culture.
The iconic Art Deco Museum on Miami Beach was the venue which hosted the 15th edition of the event; made up of a global audience with a distinguished panel featuring prominent artists, historians, and collectors. They included Josette Bailey, renowned, African American Art Advisor, Julie Walker, esteemed African American Art Critic, Jarvis Dubois, Smithsonian Art Professional and Consultant, Professor Raimi Gbadamosi, Chairman, Howard University Department of Art, Oliver Enwonwu, Celebrated Nigerian Artist, Nathan Delinois, Prominent Haitian American Artist, and Ronda Brown, an African American Artist.
The esteemed panel and engaging audience tackled many issues such as: “The role of African metaphysics and art in healing and spiritual empowerment”, “The intersection of art, culture, and community”, “The Black presence at Art Basel 2024”, “Navigating the global Black art market”, “Building a valuable Black art collection”, and “The African Diaspora Renaissance movement.”
Like the previous editions, this year saw attendees enjoy a special curated exhibition titled “AfroSpiritual Energetics“, which celebrated the vibrant artistic expressions of the African Diaspora.
Haitian American Artists – Nathan Delinois and Woosler Delisfort, Jamaican Artists – Gavin Jordan and Sophia Wong, Congolese Artist – Bayunga Kialeuka, and African American Artists – Maxwell Pearce, Ronda Brown, Khaulah Naima Nuruddin and Michael B. Platt.
The Annual Contemporary African Diaspora Art (CADA) Panel Discussion, is a hallmark of Art Basel Miami Beach.
This year’s event lived up to expectation by being a dynamic convergence of thought-provoking discussions and awe-inspiring art, celebrating the resilience, creativity, and cultural contributions of the African Diaspora.
