The event is under the theme “AfCFTA Implementation: Leveraging Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) for deeper Economic Integration in Africa.”
The event website of African Diaspora Council of Switzerland states that:
“The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) became operational in January 2021. Negotiations on Phase II touching on issues like investment, competition policy and intellectual property rights (IPR) are still ongoing having been delayed due to the Covid-19. E-commerce and digital trade could be another issue. The conference will examine the background, rationale, objectives and possible approaches of AfCFTA IPR Protocol, creation of IP Innovation Ecosystems and the role of the Diaspora in the development of Intellectual Property in Africa and in host countries.”
