International Women’s Day is commemorated on March 8, every year to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

This year, the IWD 2022 campaign theme is “#BreakTheBias” – a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.

As we celebrate women around the world today, Diaspora Digital News specially acknowledges women in the diaspora/migration space who are making an impact, spearheading change for development and working to #BreakTheBias.

In the words of Marina Manke, Ph. D – Head of Division, Labour Mobility and Human Development, International Organization for Migration: “Diasporas are actors with the will and capacity to create partnerships for development at the international, regional, national, and local levels. Women play an integral role in all of this; the more reason why we should #BreakTheBias to encourage their participation in diaspora development initiatives.”

Breaking the Bias will take a continuous and collective effort of every individual.

We are dedicating the whole of March 2022 to celebrate women making an impact in the diaspora and migration space. Together we can forge for women’s equality in a diverse, equitable, and inclusive world where difference is valued and celebrated.
