Mohamed El-Agaty is a professional calligraphy artist based in Dubai.

He is well known in the UAE and GCC region for his remarkable Arabic artistic work which expresses diversity in medium and execution.

He has worked on various projects with reputable Art Galleries and brands in Dubai such as Sikka, Tashkeel, Expo 2020, Majid Al Futtaim, and many others.

Mohamed started his professional journey in calligraphy eight years ago. “I started mastering calligraphy eight years ago by learning all classic fonts through online courses, after which I took it to a more professional level by taking intensive courses in various fonts with the world-class calligrapher Mr. Mothana Al Obaidi” he said.

“I’ve taken my professional journey even further by mastering digital design and learning ADOBE (Ai, Ps, Ae) to digitalize and enhance my handmade work for commercial projects. Since the beginning of my career, I’ve focused on channeling my talent and creativity into meaningful and powerful results. I take pride in the Arabic language and the work I do as an Arabic Calligraphy Artist.” Mohamed added.

As a professionally trained engineer, Mohamed comes from an artistic family, and so creativity and paying attention to detail runs in his DNA.

His designs became one of the most talked about Arabic Calligraphy marks of the Expo 2020 global event; and were present on the majority of the Expo’s products in their official stores.

“Calligraphy to me isn’t just a set of lines in a classical mold, it’s always beyond routine and regular lettering. It’s about maintaining the balance between meaningful shapes, colors and words.”

In 2021, Mohamed launched Agaty Jewelry with calligraphy being the main focus, in addition to his existing work in sculpture, Augmented Reality (AR). “I believe that Arabic Calligraphy has the ability to give anything a new dimension of beauty and elegance. That is why I take the opportunity and challenge to work in different areas. This was the drive behind launching my jewelry brand.

Mohamed’s work has been recognised severally. He came first place in the ‘Year of Tolerance Arabic Calligraphy Competition’, was awarded ‘Best Mural Design’ by Maraya Pitch for Landmark Group, and selected as Artist for the Sikka 2020 Art Fair.

He also worked with Dubai Tourism to create a logo that was part of an upcoming movie, ‘Dubai: A Riveting Mystery’, featuring Zac Efron and Jessica Alba. In addition, he has been awarded with the UAE Golden Visa in appreciation and recognition of his talents.

The Dubai-based artist is bent on using innovation to revolutionarise the art world. Mohamed is pushing the boundaries of calligraphy, incorporating Augmented Reality (AR) into his work. He has successfully done this integration with calligraphy work using the Artvive App.
